Art in the City: Plein Air MKE 2017

“Plein Air Milwaukee raised the bar in their inaugural event of 2016. Top notch art, the easy ability to see art created and get to know the artists and a bang up, spot on opening all created an event you don’t want to miss this year!! The art generated by plein air artists is as personal as it gets…your neighborhood, sometimes even your home, through the trained eye of an artist. What could be better than that?”
– Wendie Thompson, Group Coordinator for Wisconsin Plein Air Painters Association

SECOND ANNUAL PLEIN AIR MKE 2017
ART IN THE CITY • MAY 11-21, 2017

Join us as over 100 acclaimed artists paint and compete for over $6,000 in prizes along the Milwaukee Museum Mile in Milwaukee’s historic East Side. Our inaugural event last year brought thousands of people to the Mile in May, showcasing some of the best painters from around the Midwest and exposing new audiences to our museums and to all the East Side has to offer.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the Art in the City Soirée for the artwork judging, artist awards and art sale at the Museum of Wisconsin Art at Saint John’s On The Lake. Proceeds will benefit the MMM museums.

What’s New in 2017

Due to its success, we have increased the number of days from five to eleven and expanded the boundaries of the competition. The MMM is also proud to announce an additional Quick Paint Competition on Prospect Avenue.

What is Milwaukee Museum Mile

Milwaukee Museum Mile (MMM) is a joint effort of five arts and cultural museums located on Milwaukee’s historic East Side, to create a simple and more affordable way for visitors to access and enjoy multiple museum experiences, while promoting Milwaukee’s East Side as a destination to both residents of and visitors to our city. For more information about the Milwaukee Museum Mile and Milwaukee Museum Mile Day visit www.milwaukeemuseummile.org

Want to Volunteer?

If you love art, artists, parties or helping museums, volunteer to be part of the 2nd annual Art In The City: Plein Air MKE presented by the Milwaukee Museum Mile. Art In The City will take place Thursday, May 11 – Sunday, May 21, 2017.

Volunteers are needed to help with both technical and ambassadorial tasks. Technical volunteers need to be comfortable with technology, data entry, and running transactions. Ambassadors will be liaisons to artists and guests alike. Ambassadors will be in charge of event hospitality as well as communicating competition rules and answering questions. Most shifts are 4 to 5 hours.

All volunteers are invited to the Art in the City Soiree for FREE the evening of Thursday, May 18th at Saint John’s On The Lake. Saint John’s On The Lake (1840 N Prospect Ave) is the central hub of this event and most volunteer shifts will be fulfilled at this location.
