Christmas Day Cinema + Coloring Workshop

Looking for something fun to do on Christmas Day? Come to Jewish Museum Milwaukee to enjoy the star-studded 1980s award-winning comedy classic 9 to 5, and a special coloring workshop that appeals to both children and adults!

Film Screening: 9 to 5

Meet Franklin Hart (Dabney Coleman). The biggest “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” boss on the planet. He thrills in taking advantage of his female office staff; humiliating, downplaying, and condescending against them whenever conveniently possible, particularly his top assistant Violet (Lily Tomlin).

Long-exhausted over his gruesome bullishness, Violet, alongside co-workers Doralee (Dolly Parton) and Judy (Jane Fonda) fantasizes about ways of “doing him in.” When the women accidentally kidnap Hart and trap him in his own house, they take their chance to turn around the sexist business practices their loathsome boss maintained. They implement an in-office day care center, equal pay for men and women, flexible hours, and a job-sharing program where employees can work part-time.

But just how long can they keep him tied up?

The screening of 9 to 5 will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will end before 2:30 p.m., giving you plenty of time to view Women Pulling at the Threads of Social Discourse and participate in the coloring workshop before or after the film.

The Great Americans Coloring Project

Adults and children alike are invited to work on oversized coloring book pages that celebrate under-recognized stories, notable community figures, and historical topics of local and national importance. After the coloring, the vibrant pages will be re-printed on velvet to produce a large collaboratively constructed tapestry of a diverse, inclusive, and equitable American history.

The coloring workshop will be held from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. and led by visiting artist Jac Lahav. Lahav’s initiatives and work, including Sojourner featured in the Women Pulling at the Threads of Social Discourse exhibit, foster advocacy. Event participants will be engaged in conversations while creating art!
