As a Community Partner, Milwaukee Film will be screening two films with Blacklist connections. Join Jewish Museum Milwaukee and Milwaukee Film to watch The Best Years of Our Lives, a 1946 American drama film directed by William Wyler and starring Myrna Loy, Fredric March, Dana Andrews, Teresa Wright, Virginia Mayo, and Harold Russell.
The Best Years of Our Lives tells the story of Fred, Al and Homer, all three World War II veterans facing difficulties as they re-enter civilian life. Fred is a war hero who, unable to compete with more highly skilled workers, has to return to his low-wage soda jerk job. Bank executive Al gets into trouble for offering favorable loans to veterans. After losing both hands in the war, Homer returns to his loving fiancée, but must struggle to adjust.
Although The Best Years of Our Lives won seven Academy Awards in 1946, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor, the FBI found its depictions of challenging conditions for GIs returning from war and the portrayal of unfeeling bankers to be subversive.
Film Screening – 12:00 pm
